Island Grid Renovation News
In 2014 the project begain. Our skilled Line Crew has been busy replacing old poles, transformers, and high voltage power lines.   The North Haven island grid renovation project was completed in late 2014.   The Vinalhaven island grid renovation project was started in early 2015.   All of Vinalhaven is compled except for Calderwood Neck.   Calderwood Neck is will be completed in 2020. As a result of these ambitious projects, our Coop's grid is in outstanding condition.

Outages
In the winter month of February, 2015, the islands were battered by six blizzards.   Because of the grid renovation work and the 2014 right-of-way tree cutting work, we experienced only a few outages during the entire winter.   Now the average outage is 30 minutes.

Right-of-way Tree Cutting Work
In 2020 a major focus will be right-of-way tree cutting work.   This type of maintanice work is required every 5 years and is important to avoid outages during storms.

Our Wind Farm and our Atmosphere's CO2 & Oxygen
As islands in the sea our Vinalhaven and North Haven communities face a future with rising sea levels due to the increasing levels of CO2 in our atmosphere.  Our Wind Farm produces zero CO2.   We are a bright shining national example of a community taking positive action to reduce CO2 production.  We are proud to stand on the cutting edge of America's renewable green energy.  Over the past ten years (2010 to 2020), our communities' Wind Farm has generated over 113,200,000 green Kilo-Watt-Hours (KWHs)of electrical energy.  The Wind Farm's KWHs production negated the burning of coal that would have pumped 112,000 Tons of CO2 into our atmosphere, and saved 86,000 Tons of Oxygen that would have taken out of our atmosphere.

Wind Farm Stabilized Energy Cost
Most important, our renewable green-energy Wind Farm has stabilized and at times reduced our islands' electricity bills.
