NOTICE OF APPLICATION TO RENEW AIR EMISSION LICENSE A-000898-71-C-R
FIEC DIESEL GENERATOR AT FISHHEAD SUBSTATION
Please take notice that Fox Islands Electric Cooperative, Inc., 66 Main Street, PO Box 527, Vinalhaven, ME 04863, (207) 863-4636, intends to file an Air Emission License application with the Maine Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) pursuant to the provisions of 38 M.R.S., Section 590 on November 10, 2025.
The application is to renew FIEC’s Air Emission License for its diesel generator at Fishhead Substation, 1387 North Haven Rd., Vinalhaven, ME 04863. The license permits the continued operation of the generator, which FIEC operates on an emergency basis to provide backup electricity during transmission outages and as directed by ISO-NE, such as an ISO-NE capacity scarcity condition. Other than routine maintenance and repairs, no changes or upgrades have been made or are proposed. According to DEP regulations, interested parties must be publicly notified, written comments invited, and if justified, an opportunity for public hearing given. A request for a public hearing must be received by the DEP, in writing, no later than 20 days after the application is accepted by the DEP as complete for processing. The application and supporting documentation will be made available for review by contacting the DEP Bureau of Air Quality offices in Augusta, (207) 287-7688, during normal working hours.
